For a leading academic medical center:
We facilitated an institution-wide strategic planning effort, across the research, clinical, education and community missions.
A multi-billion dollar academic medical center was looking to develop a strategic plan that addressed the vast changes in the clinical, research and education landscape since it had last embarked on strategic planning, ten years before — among them, the growing move towards population health management, pressures on extramural funding for research, and new regulations affecting resident training. Working closely with a client team, AltshulerStaats developed a picture of the current state of the institution — its strengths and weaknesses, and environmental challenges and opportunities — which was codified into a business-school-style “case”. This case was used as the foundation for a retreat that brought together 200 leaders across the institution to reflect on the current state, expected changes and implications, and ultimately develop a set of strategic priorities. Subsequent to the retreat, AltshulerStaats facilitated the work of faculty committees charged with developing more detailed plans for pursuing the identified priorities.
